Greenwich Village

The Village is a district towards the south of Manhattan, west of NY University. It is a set of low buildings, in the redish tones mostly, with a lot of trees around. So indeed it does look like a village, especially with the classic Manhattan grid of streets and avenues leaving place to a more european-like pattern.

The very bottom of the fifth avenue, the Arch of the Washington Square Park, looks classical, but cannot be approached directly.

As the saying goes, theres always something happening in the Village. Here, the central part of the Park is home to a show of jumps.

Just a few meters away, a shooting is taking place.

Now for some shots of the Village itself, here one of the many restaurants, and a very colorful one.

The Jefferson Market Library, north of the Village, looks a lot like a church !

A very nice street, MacDougal street, lined up with famous bars (Cafe Wha, Reggio, Borgia, the Minetta Tavern), restaurants, shops and so on, and a lot less traffic than anywhere else in the City.

The very beginning of the Fifth, that is, with the back to the Arch. The Empire States can be guessed in the background.

Albington Square marks the eastern point of the Village.

Bleeker street is the main vein going through the Village, with this peculiar tavern : Jekyll and Hyde, "Restaurant and Social Club for Explorers and Mad Scientists"

The very small park just outside the Stonewall Bar, which i didnt find. This bar was home of the 1969 gay rebellion, starting point of a turnaround in the gay history.

The Village is also home to some famous night clubs, including the Blue Note. The show this night was with "tenor sax explosion" James Carter, and David Murray.
